چکیده

An interpolation-based method for computing refrigerant properties which can be used in simulations of vaporcompression air-conditioning equipment is presented. This method uses bicubic functions to interpolate between samples of the Helmholtz energy surface as a function of temperature and density. Three beneficial characteristics of this method are discussed: speed, accuracy, and consistency, as well as a means for using a variety of different independent variables are also presented. The implementation of this method is discussed, and experimental results for property calculations for refrigerant R-134a are presented which compare favorably to standard Newton-based equation of state methods.

Standardized Polynomials for Fast Evaluation of Refrigerant Thermophysical Properties

Steady state and dynamic simulation and optimization are a key step in the design of heating, ventilation, airconditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems. It is well known that the computation time in such simulations is dominated by the refrigerant thermophysical property calculations. These calculations generally involve calculating all thermophysical properties given one or two independe...

Quantitative Modeling for Prediction of Critical Temperature of Refrigerant Compounds

The quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) method is used to develop the correlation between structures of refrigerants (198 compounds) and their critical temperature. Molecular descriptors calculated from structure alone were used to represent molecular structures. A subset of the calculated descriptors selected using a genetic algorithm (GA) was used in the QSPR model development...

Uncertainty Analysis on Prediction of Heat Transfer Coefficient and Pressure Drop in Heat Exchangers Due to Refrigerant Property Prediction Error

Numerical simulation is extensively used in heat exchanger design and performance evaluation. While evaluating potential working fluids, pure fluids and fluid mixtures with different component combinations and fractions are compared based on simulation results. Two of the challenges while conducting such studies are the uncertainties of refrigerant properties and the applicability of empirical ...

On the error propagation of semi-Lagrange and Fourier methods for advection problems☆

In this paper we study the error propagation of numerical schemes for the advection equation in the case where high precision is desired. The numerical methods considered are based on the fast Fourier transform, polynomial interpolation (semi-Lagrangian methods using a Lagrange or spline interpolation), and a discontinuous Galerkin semi-Lagrangian approach (which is conservative and has to stor...

On the Efficiency and Accuracy of Interpolation Methods for Spectral Codes

In this paper a general theory for interpolation methods on a rectangular grid is introduced. By the use of this theory an efficient B-spline-based interpolation method for spectral codes is presented. The theory links the order of the interpolation method with its spectral properties. In this way many properties like order of continuity, order of convergence, and magnitude of errors can be exp...
